A36 new crossing

Works are underway again for the replacement of the existing Pelican crossing with a Toucan crossing on the A36 Lower  Bristol Road, between Jews Lane and Burnham Road.

The contractor (Skanska) will be undertaking all civils works which include lowering of the existing kerb and footway at the new crossing point, raising of the kerbs and footway at the existing crossing point, installation of tactile paving, signal equipment etc. Western Power Distribution (WPD) will be on site on Monday 17th March to carry out the necessary electrical connections. In order to minimise disruption to pedestrians we have agreed with WPD to keep the power supply to the existing crossing running until Siemens have completed the installation of all electrical equipment for the new crossing. They will be undertaking their part of the works from Monday 24th March.

Please note that next Tuesday Jews Lane will be closed to traffic to allow installation of a new duct/cable. Skanska have been advised to display signs advising of this work. Also, on 24th March the A36 Lower Bristol Road is due to be resurfaced. This work will also be carried out under a temporary road closure, overnight only, from 07.00pm to 07.00 am. Signs will be in place advising motorists to follow a diversion.
