The recent bad weather has highlighted the need for the Council to change its policy on the provision of grit bins in residential roads. During the summer and autumn Dine Romero attempted to use some of the money available to Councillors to provide extra grit bins in the Southdown Area. The requests were turned down by the Council.
We think residential grit bins is a good investment of public money as in times of bad weather it enables residents to clear pavements and roads that the gritting machines will not call on. One resident has even sent us a suggestion about investing in low tech gritting machines. Read about an example at this LINK .
We will be pushing to change this policy to one that positively promotes resident action in clearing up neighbourhoods during inclement weather.
